🥊 The Main Event
Dana White blanked his own No. 4 heavyweight on a live mic (Oct 22) · MMA
At Thursday’s UFC 333 press conference in Abu Dhabi, Alexander Volkov — the No. 4 heavyweight, fighting on Saturday’s card — took a floor mic, played the rookie and asked Dana White what he should do to become champion. White asked his record. Volkov deadpanned: 51 fights, about 20 in the UFC.
White still didn’t place him — until Alexander Volkanovski got up and whispered in his ear. White recovered (“He thought I didn’t know!”) and finally answered the question: “Talk to Sean Shelby and Mick Maynard.” Nobody has confirmed it was staged. (MMA Junkie; MMA News.)
Why it matters. A promoter not recognising a top-five heavyweight on his own card is the star-building machine telling on itself. If the boss can’t place him, the audience never stood a chance.
Adam’s take. Whether it was a bit or a blank almost doesn’t matter — the clip landed because it confirmed what fans already believe: Dana’s attention has moved to boxing, slap fighting and the next deal. The UFC sells the brand now, not the fighters. Volkov has 14 UFC wins and a decade in the building, and on Thursday he was a stranger with a microphone.
“How many fights do you have? What’s your record?” — Dana White, to his No. 4 heavyweight |

📊 The Full Card
Danis’s Chimaev shirt ended the RAF presser in a brawl (Oct 22) · MMA
- Dillon Danis turned up to Thursday’s RAF 14 presser in Las Vegas in a shirt mocking Khamzat Chimaev. Arman Tsarukyan charged him, punches flew, Chimaev tried to join in, and security — one guard reportedly bleeding — ended it. (Bloody Elbow; talkSPORT.) @Grabaka_Hitman on X: RAF’s model is MMA fighters and hoped-for brawls — the real wrestlers get zero attention.
- The business read: RAF built real awareness in a year. But it’s rented — borrowed headliners, gimmick heat, no stars of its own. Attention isn’t equity.
Bentley’s belt is on the clock — the WBO said fight Hernandez or vacate (Oct 22) · BOXING
- WBO president Gustavo Olivieri denied Denzel Bentley’s voluntary-defense appeal and gave him 24 hours to commit to mandatory Yoenli Hernandez. Per Dan Rafael, Bentley already has a signed agreement to debut for Zuffa Boxing on Nov 7 against Shane Mosley Jr. Expect the belt vacated by day’s end. (Bad Left Hook; Dan Rafael.)
- The business read: Champions keep trading belts for leverage — and Zuffa keeps paying above market to collect them.
Rafael asks the question nobody at Paramount will answer (Oct 21) · MEDIA
- Dan Rafael asked Paramount’s publicists for the Garcia-Benn viewership number and got total silence: “They were embarrassed by the numbers, I’m sure.” It’s a thin thread, but Rafael’s read is blunt — if the number were good, you’d have seen it. (Boxing247; EssentiallySports via Total Boxing.)
- The business read: Silence is a number too. If Zuffa’s first big card underdelivered on Paramount, the leverage in every future rights talk just moved.
Lawler almost fought Perry in BKFC — and Perry’s already gone (Oct 22) · BARE-KNUCKLE
- Robbie Lawler told Ariel Helwani that BKFC talks once came close to producing a Mike Perry fight, but it “didn’t feel right” — a bare-knuckle return is now unlikely. The irony: Perry told Helwani two days earlier he’s done with BKFC and going back to MMA. (MiddleEasy via Helwani; Sherdog. Lawler detail single-sourced.)
- The business read: BKFC keeps shopping the MMA legends aisle. Lawler said no — and the one name that said yes just walked out the door.
Benavidez wants to promote himself next (Oct 22) · BOXING
- Benavidez told The Last Stand he’ll follow Shakur Stevenson’s path into self-promotion after his December bout with Michal Cieslak: “I’ve honoured the contract. It’s been 10 years... It’s my time to do my own thing.” He added he’ll stay “on this side of the street” — PBC all the way. (DAZN News; single-sourced.)
- The business read: The Shakur playbook is becoming a movement: stars renting the machine, not selling themselves to it. The question is who brings the distribution.
A banned UFC veteran headlines a new grappling promotion in Rio (Oct 22) · BJJ
- ACBJJ 23 (Nov 13, Farmasi Arena, Rio) put Rousimar Palhares — banned by Dana White from the UFC in 2013, inactive 2+ years — against Andre Galvao under combat jiu-jitsu rules. Co-main: UFC fighters Kelvin Gastelum vs. Rodolfo Vieira in no-gi; Edson Barboza is expected on the card. (Bloody Elbow; Sherdog.)
- The business read: New promotions don’t need a roster — they need a reason. A banned legend plus UFC names in a fresh ruleset is the cheapest attention in the sport.

💬 The Chatter
What the fight world is talking about — no take required, just the room.
- The Catterall-Teofimo deadline expired with no deal. Catterall won’t take step-aside money, Hearn says fight or vacate, and the WBA’s next move is pending. (Boxing News 24, Oct 22.)
- Bidarian: MVP doesn’t need Netflix for Paul’s return. Four unnamed opponents in talks for late 2026 or early 2027, with “the opponent” deciding “the location and distribution.” (combatsportsuk, quoting his X post, Oct 22; single-sourced.)
- The Mayweather-Garcia rumor mill hit Helwani’s show. Crawford picked Mayweather, and Dan Rafael urged skepticism, pointing at the Netflix/CSI Pacquiao-rematch contracts and a criminal bad-check case. (Uncrowned, Oct 22.)
- NajiChill shared what Shakur told him about the promotional exit. Questioned the reported financial fallout over the Jose Valenzuela fight — and 46.8K watched. (@arielhelwani on X, Oct 22.)
- Bishop vs. Ditcheva rematch chatter is building. (mmasucka, Oct 22.)

💰 Who Got Paid
Benn’s $15 million undercard. Conor Benn banked a reported $15M for the one-fight Netflix undercard deal — then signed a five-fight contract on top. Whatever Paramount’s silence says about the viewership, the fighter got paid like a headliner. (EssentiallySports.)

📈 Markets

THURSDAY, OCT 22 CLOSES

DKNG $20.94 +2.00% Thu — fourth straight green day. Still down ~39% on the year. Earnings land Nov 5.
TKO $177.72 -0.12% Thu — down ~15% YTD, hugging the 52-week low zone. Even a pair of analyst upgrades (Arete to Buy at $208, BTIG reaffirm $237) couldn’t move the tape.
NFLX $67.05 +3.09% Thu — wildcard. Down ~28% YTD. The streamer fights on all fronts at once: corporate shakeup, and its fight slate in question.
PREDICTION MARKETS — Polymarket
UFC 333: Dvalishvili vs. Yan 3 $238k vol
| Yan 58.5% |

The co-main money keeps drifting to Yan; the main event is still a genuine coin flip. Kalshi’s KXUFCFIGHT prices weren’t readable this morning, so we skip it.
The read: Green Thursday for the fight-economy basket — the betting stocks bounced hardest, with Flutter up 4.4% off its October low and DraftKings logging its fourth straight green day into the Nov 5 earnings. TKO drifted despite the analyst love. Prediction money keeps piling into Saturday’s co-main, Yan at 58.5%.
