🥊 The Main Event
Shakur walked out on Zuffa Boxing — and started his own promotion (Oct 19) · BOXING
Shakur Stevenson announced in a YouTube video Monday that Zuffa Boxing granted his release over the weekend. Signed July 9, he never fought once for the venture: “eight weeks preparing for fights that I was told was going to happen and it has not happened.” He’s starting his own promotional company while “willing to work with other promoters.” (MMA Junkie; MMA Mania; CombatSportsUK; BJPenn.)
The number behind the split: reporter Sean Zittel (Boxing News 24) says Stevenson wanted $15 million per fight “no matter who was going to be put in front of him” — and rejected a ~$7 million Zuffa offer for a January date vs. Jose Valenzuela. (Flag: single-sourced — one reporter’s account, not confirmed.)
Why it matters. TKO/Dana White’s boxing launch just lost its most established signing before a single bell rang. When the biggest name on your roster walks citing fights that never materialized, that’s not a contract dispute — it’s a credibility problem. Last week’s Haney collapse was the symptom; this is the diagnosis.
Adam’s take. I’ve watched this movie from the other side of the table. A fighter signs with the shiny new machine, the fights don’t come, and the contract turns out to be a press release with money attached. Shakur did what most fighters won’t: he called it early and walked. The $15 million demand says he knew his price; the walk says the machine couldn’t pay it — not in money, in fights. Zuffa Boxing’s launch just lost its proof of concept.

📊 The Full Card
Netflix goes exclusive on La Velada del Año, 2027–2029 (Oct 19) · MEDIA
- Netflix will stream Ibai Llanos’ creator-boxing spectacles VII, VIII and IX exclusively under a three-year pact starting 2027. Ibai sold only the broadcast rights and remains sole owner. The event peaked at ~9.3M concurrent viewers in 2025 and averaged 6M+ in 2026 — moving off native Twitch/YouTube/TikTok onto global distribution. Ibai: “bringing it to Netflix for the next three years gives us the opportunity to make it even bigger without losing what makes it special: the community.” (The Futon Critic; What’s on Netflix.)
- The business read: A creator with 9.3M concurrent viewers just became Netflix’s live property — and kept ownership of the event itself. That’s the new rights model in one deal: the distributor rents the audience, the creator keeps the asset. Every streamer without a fight property just watched the template get written.
Adames vs. Warburton reportedly headlines Zuffa Boxing’s Nov 14 Riyadh card (Oct 19) · BOXING
- Per Dan Rafael (via Bad Left Hook): WBC middleweight champ Carlos Adames makes his Zuffa Boxing debut Nov 14 in Riyadh — a non-title, above-160 catchweight vs. unranked Gerome Warburton (18-2-2). The WBC approved the catchweight weeks after ordering Adames to face long-waiting mandatory Meiirim Nursultanov. Not yet a Zuffa Boxing announcement. (Bad Left Hook; MiddleEasy.)
- The business read: The sanctioning body ordered Adames to face his mandatory, then blessed a tune-up instead — that’s what the Zuffa launch is worth in WBC currency right now. Debuting your champ in a non-title catchweight against an 18-2-2 opponent is a launch strategy; let’s see if it’s a business. Flag: reported, not yet official.
Amanda Nunes rules out retirement — even with a win at UFC 334 (Oct 19) · MMA
- Nunes says her comeback “isn’t a ‘one and done’” — she won’t retire even with a win over Kayla Harrison next month after a “hard time” away. It reshapes the women’s bantamweight title picture and the UFC 334 commercial outlook. (Bloody Elbow; Combat Sports UK.)
- The business read: The biggest women’s draw in MMA history just extended her runway — that changes what UFC 334 is selling. A one-off comeback is a nostalgia act; a committed return is a division with a plan.
Anthony Vargas signs multifight BKB deal, headlines Dec 5 TikTok card (Oct 19) · BARE-KNUCKLE
- Undefeated 3-0 pro boxer and social-media personality Anthony Vargas (26; 14.5M combined TikTok/YouTube followers) signed a multifight BKB contract, announced at an open workout at Humble Warrior Gym in LA. Per BKB’s X announcement he headlines BKB 62 in LA on the TikTok broadcast. BKB CEO David Tetreault cited his unbeaten record and social following; Vargas: “Bare knuckle is more suited to my style.” (Sherdog; MiddleEasy.)
- The business read: BKB isn’t buying a boxer — it’s buying 14.5 million followers with hands. The influencer-boxing economics keep working: the promotion gets distribution baked into the roster, the creator gets a new stage. The TikTok broadcast isn’t the afterthought; it’s the point.
Basharat weighs a Rizin move — and blames Paramount and TKO (Oct 19) · MMA
- On the Oct 19 Demetrious Johnson MightyCast, the 16-0 former UFC bantamweight said he’s interested in Rizin (“interest comes from watching Pride while growing up”) and explained why joining brother Javid in PFL is complicated (same weight class, Javid near a title shot). On White’s comments: he never turned down a fight — “Still I don’t blame Dana, I blame Paramount and TKO.” (MiddleEasy; Combat Sports UK.)
- The business read: Two brothers, two different promotions, one family negotiating against the same machine. The tell: the blame has moved upstream from the matchmaker to the owner — fighters now negotiate with the broadcast deal in mind. Flag: follow-up to yesterday’s saga — genuinely new development (the next-move plan).

💬 The Chatter
What the fight world is talking about — no take required, just the room.
- Find-it-first: “Boxing Stars” comes back. Belgian formats distributor Primitives is reviving its celebrity-boxing entertainment format “Boxing Stars” in the Netherlands, eight years after its original RTL5 run, now produced by Signal.Stream. The influencer-boxing wave reaches the format-TV revival stage. (Realscreen, Oct 19 — flag: single-sourced, trade press.)
- Helwani raises staff-safety concerns. On his Oct 19 show, Helwani reported unease among production/support staff (anonymous contacts) about traveling to upcoming Saudi events amid recent attacks, argued workers should choose voluntarily, and criticized White’s public reassurances. The security climate is now hitting the Saudi calendar’s staffing. (MiddleEasy — flag: single-sourced, Helwani’s anonymous accounts.)
- Garry’s quick turnaround. Helwani revealed on his Oct 19 show that Ian Machado Garry intends to fight again before year-end after the Makhachev loss, with a fight announcement expected soon. A marketable name staying active in Q4. (Bloody Elbow; Combat Sports UK — both via Helwani.)
- Ankalaev names DDP. Magomed Ankalaev named Dricus du Plessis in his light-heavyweight title discussions, sparking talk of a 205 move for DDP after he beat Kamaru Usman in July. A move would reshuffle two title pictures. (Combat Sports UK; Bloody Elbow.)

💰 Who Got Paid
Stevenson’s $15 million ask — and the $7 million he walked past. Reporter Sean Zittel (Boxing News 24) says Stevenson wanted “$15 million no matter who was going to be put in front of him,” and rejected a ~$7 million Zuffa offer for a January date vs. Jose Valenzuela. Flag: single-sourced — one reporter’s account, not confirmed. If it’s real, the biggest number in Zuffa Boxing’s short history is the one that never got signed.

FLUT $77.38 +2.4% Mon — FanDuel’s parent rode the same wave.

PREDICTION MARKETS — Polymarket
UFC 333: Dvalishvili vs. Yan 3 $78.5k vol
| Yan 61.5% |
|
| Dvalishvili 38.5% |
|
The co-main is the betting board’s most competitive UFC 333 market — the main event’s Volkanovski-Evloev sits at $43.3k, below the $50k bar. Kalshi’s KXUFCFIGHT book has the “Merab wins” contract last traded at 41¢ — same read, different venue.
The read: The betting names led Monday — DraftKings up 4.6% and FanDuel’s parent up 2.4%, a rare green day for a sector that’s spent the fall sliding. The optimism sits with the money on fights, not the companies that sell them.
