BKFC killed its flyweight division — and forgot to tell the champ (Oct 16) · BARE-KNUCKLE

BKFC president David Feldman went on Jake Noecker’s show Friday and did something almost no promoter does in public: he killed a division. The 125-lb flyweight class is gone, permanently — “just don’t have enough competition.” (MMA News; EssentiallySports.)

Here’s the part that tells you how BKFC operates. Feldman hadn’t told flyweight champion John Dodson yet. The 42-year-old inaugural champ ends a 31-month layoff tonight, fighting Jamel Herring for the bantamweight belt at BKFC 95 in Newark. If Dodson wins, Feldman said he’ll be honored as champ-champ — “then we’re gonna take it from him.”

Dodson signed a new three-fight deal for the move up; his camp told the Albuquerque Journal that BKFC had pushed to renegotiate his contract during the layoff. The champion of a dissolved division, fighting for a belt that no longer exists, on a renegotiated deal.

Why it matters. A belt is inventory. When a division can’t produce contenders, the title stops being an asset and starts being a cost — matchmaker hours, a champion with nobody to defend against. Feldman didn’t retire the belt with a ceremony. He audited it and cut the line item. In a business that prints belts the way casinos print chips, subtraction is the rarest move of all. Flag: one interview, two outlets reporting it; the Herring fight tonight is for the bantamweight title regardless.

📊 The Full Card

Dubois vs. Wardley 2 — tonight, and the odds flipped (Oct 16) · BOXING

  • Daniel Dubois weighed 253.9 lbs, Fabio Wardley a career-heavy 248.3 at Friday’s O2 weigh-in — both heavier than the May first fight (Dubois TKO11). WBO heavyweight title; DAZN PPV, main card 2pm ET, ring walks ~5:30pm ET. (The Ring; Fightmag.)
  • The business read: the sentiment flip is the story — Wardley was the slight favorite in May; now Dubois is roughly -370 (DraftKings via SI), Wardley +275. And tonight is a live A/B test: DAZN charging UK/US PPV while PBC runs two title fights free on TNT/truTV/DAZN in Vegas the same night. Flag: odds move between books.

Figueroa stripped on the scale — tonight’s Vegas card just got chaotic (Oct 17) · BOXING

  • Brandon Figueroa came in 1.4 lbs over the 126-lb limit Friday for tonight’s Tomoki Kameda fight in Las Vegas — and the WBA stripped him immediately. The fight goes on; Kameda can win the now-vacant belt, Figueroa can’t. Kameda called it “disrespectful” via translator. (Reuters wire.)
  • The business read: the co-main of PBC’s “The Fight” monthly series — two title fights on free TV, zero gate friction — is now a vacant-title fight decided by a scale, not a punch. The main event: Sebastian Fundora (24-1-1) makes his fourth WBC super-welterweight defense against unbeaten Ermal Hadribeaj (23-0-1) at the Cosmopolitan, 8pm ET on TNT/truTV/DAZN, no PPV. (Fightmag; Boxingschedule.co.)

Bishop dethrones Carmouche — and PFL walked Ditcheva into the cage (Oct 16) · MMA

  • Jena Bishop beat Liz Carmouche by unanimous decision (48-47 x3) in the PFL Chicago main event at the Wintrust Arena, winning the inaugural PFL women’s flyweight title — avenging their 2025 tournament meeting. Thirteen fights on the card; Timur Khizriev beat Gabriel Braga by controversial split decision in the co-feature. (MMA Junkie; SI Fannation.)
  • The business read: the real play came after the bell. Dakota Ditcheva (16-0, 11-0 in PFL) revealed Friday she has medical clearance and will challenge for the title in early 2027 — then squared off with Bishop in the cage. PFL is building Ditcheva as its breakout star, and it just handed her a title stage to walk into.

Netflix’s Tyson doc is a hit — the fight-IP land grab keeps paying (Oct 15) · MEDIA

  • The four-part Mike Tyson docuseries premiered Tuesday and hit No. 2 on Netflix’s U.S. most-watched TV chart within 24 hours, per FlixPatrol. (Men’s Journal; DK Network.)
  • The business read: a four-part documentary about a 60-year-old pulls chart numbers overnight — the streamers have decided combat lives are prestige TV inventory. Pairs with this week’s trailer for Prime’s scripted Ali series “The Greatest.” The content land-grab around fight IP is now a ratings strategy, not a side bet. Flag: chart data via FlixPatrol.

Salita keeps shopping Puerto Rico — two top prospects signed (Oct 16) · BOXING

  • Juliam “Julito” Ortiz (5x Puerto Rican national champ, 64-7 as an amateur) and Yandiel “Chinito” Lozano signed long-term with Salita Promotions & Universal Promotions. They debut Dec 5 on Wynn Records Network from Bayamon, headlined by Vazquez-Piñeiro for the WBC/WBA belts retired Katie Taylor vacated. (Fight News.)
  • The business read: Dmitriy Salita’s “reestablish Puerto Rico as a global hotbed” push continues — a promoter land-grab, debuting on a record label’s streaming network. This is the kind of vertical weirdness that moves markets later. Flag: single source.

Jorge “Locomotora” Castro, the Argentine former WBA middleweight champion, died Oct 14 at 59 after a cardiac episode in Morón. Final record: 130-11-3 with 90 knockouts across 144 fights. He’ll be remembered for “La mano de Dios” — the 1994 comeback knockout of John David Jackson in Monterrey. Rest in peace.

💬 The Chatter

What the fight world is talking about — no take required, just the room.

  • Beasley KOs West in 38 seconds — the circus economy keeps selling. Follow-up to yesterday’s item: Michael Beasley stopped Delonte West at Brandrisk 16 in Miami, Adin Ross’s Brand Risk Arena, streamed free on KICK and YouTube. West came out throwing haymakers and hit the canvas ~38 seconds in; the ring announcer initially crowned the wrong winner, then the ref corrected it. Ross said on commentary he made sure West “was paid well”; West told the broadcast crew afterward: “I need a Narcan. Brain’s a little dizzy.” (Athlon; Bleacher Report; MMA Mania)
  • Helwani: Adesanya vs. Shara Magomedov targeted for UFC Riyadh, Dec 5. Ariel Helwani reported on his show that the former middleweight champion will headline UFC Saudi Arabia at the anb Arena. Neither the UFC nor the fighters have confirmed — reported, not booked. (FSI247, Oct 15)
  • Raul Rosas Jr. to wrestle Clay Guida — RAF 15, Nov 28, Fox Nation. Real American Freestyle announced Friday that the UFC bantamweight contender will wrestle Guida at the NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. MMA Fighting notes it’s his fifth combat-sports booking of 2026. Active UFC fighters keep taking paid bookings with nothing to lose and a check to gain. (MiddleEasy, Oct 16 — flag: single source quoting RAF’s announcement)
  • Rozenstruik lands at FNC — Munich, Feb 6. Former UFC heavyweight Jairzinho Rozenstruik (16-6 in the Octagon) signed with Croatia-based Fight Nation Championship; he debuts at FNC 37 in Munich on Feb 6, 2027, no opponent announced. Since the Pavlovich loss: two Dirty Boxing KO wins, a collapsed PFL signing rumor, and now FNC — skipping PFL, KSW, OKTAGON and ACA. Regional promotions are paying real money for faded contenders. (Bloody Elbow; The Body Lock)
  • The Basharat fallout: Anik and the stars rally; Talbott roasts. Follow-up to Thursday’s exit story: Jon Anik, Belal Muhammad, Nasrat Haqparast, Amir Albazi, Ikram Aliskerov and Marvin Vettori all publicly supported the unbeaten bantamweight on his Instagram post. Payton Talbott — whom Basharat had previously called out — replied on X: “6 decisions bro.” And the roster math: DWCS Season 10 wrapped with 4 contracts, 46 over 10 weeks. The UFC is thinning the roster to make room. (Yardbarker, Oct 16)

📈 Markets

FRIDAY, OCT 16 CLOSES

NFLX  $70.53  -2.86% Fri — the day’s biggest loser; Q3 earnings land Tuesday, Oct 20. The fight tie: the company carrying Fury-Joshua in eight weeks led the slide.

DKNG  $18.90  -2.12% Fri — back near the fresh 52-week low — the betting sector’s sale continues.

FLUT  $75.60  -0.76% Fri — a quieter slide; the ~65% YTD drawdown stays the story.

TKO  $175.50  -0.30% Fri — barely red; roughly 19% off where it started the year.

PREDICTION MARKETS — Polymarket

UFC Fight Night: Malott vs. Buckley (tonight) $64k vol

Malott 53.5%

Anyone else (Buckley) 46.5%

Barely a favorite — the market gives tonight’s Edmonton main event essentially a coin flip with Canadian money. No other combat markets cleared the $50k floor (boxing shows only stale events; Kalshi fight prices are null).

The read: Friday was the give-back — every name on the board closed red, mostly undoing Thursday’s bounce. Netflix led the slide three days out from earnings. One good day doesn’t make a trend, and neither does one bad one.

“The more difficult the victory, the greater the happiness in winning.”
