Garcia vs. Teofimo in advanced talks — a Q1 welterweight unification (Oct 15) · BOXING
Ring Magazine’s Mike Coppinger reported Thursday that Ryan Garcia and Teofimo Lopez are in advanced talks for a welterweight title unification in the first quarter of 2027. Garcia holds the WBC strap; Lopez holds the WBA (Super) version — two belts, one division, the deepest in boxing. (Ring Magazine; Yardbarker.)
The snag: the WBA has ordered Lopez to defend against mandatory Jack Catterall, and Lopez is reportedly prepared to take legal action against the sanctioning body over the order. Coppinger believes the Garcia fight happens regardless of the WBA’s ruling — with Catterall potentially elevated. (Boxing News, Oct 15.)
Garcia’s last fight was September 12 — a second-round demolition of Conor Benn on Zuffa Boxing’s T-Mobile Arena debut, co-promoted with Golden Boy and carried on Paramount+ and DAZN. One month later, Zuffa’s marquee name is driving the division’s unification bout. The sanctioning bodies built the belts; the new power is deciding how they get unified.
Why it matters. This would be the first unification of the Zuffa era — and the winner owns 147 lbs outright, the division every broadcaster wants in its portfolio. It’s also a test of whether a streaming-era promoter can force a mandator-proof megafight the old-fashioned way: belt against belt. Flag: talks stage only — Coppinger’s report is sources-based, and the Lopez-WBA legal wrangle is single-sourced to Boxing News.

📊 The Full Card
Makhachev-Prates targeted for UFC 336 in Toronto — Jan 30 (Oct 15) · MMA
- Islam Makhachev’s second welterweight title defense is being targeted for UFC 336 on January 30, 2027 in Toronto, with Carlos Prates the planned opponent — per reporter Álvaro Colmenero’s X report, which Bruce Buffer then confirmed the UFC is discussing. Prates has finished all seven of his UFC wins by KO/TKO and is riding a three-fight win streak. (Sherdog; Bloody Elbow; Boxing News.)
- The business read: Makhachev wants it done before Ramadan starts in February — a hard calendar constraint doing the matchmaking. And Toronto gets the first numbered card of 2027, a reminder the UFC’s arena business is now a global calendar game. Flag: reporter-sourced, not official.
Prat keeps the IBO belt home — a Paris war with Thysse (Oct 16) · BOXING
- Milan Prat (now 31-1) beat Brandon Thysse by unanimous decision Thursday night at the Salle du Casino in Enghien-les-Bains to win the vacant IBO junior middleweight title. There were four knockdowns on the night — including a round-one Thysse drop of Prat that the referee ruled a slip. (Sowetan; SportSouthAfrica.)
- The business read: Yesterday this was a 2pm-ET AWE broadcast experiment; today it’s a French homecoming story. The IBO belt goes to the hometown fighter in front of a partisan crowd — sanctioning-body economics working exactly as designed. South Africa still has no junior middleweight IBO champion. Flag: both outlets are SA-based; scorecards and knockdown details per their accounts.
BKFC postpones Belgrade — refunds promised, no date, no explanation (Oct 14) · BARE-KNUCKLE
- BKFC Serbia postponed Saturday’s Belgrade Arena card — Agi Faulkner vs. Dilan Prašović for the BKFC Europe heavyweight title, 12 fights — "to a date still to be confirmed." All purchased tickets will be fully refunded, with no explanation, no replacement date, and no refund timetable given. (LowKick MMA.)
- The business read: International expansion is the hardest trick in the bare-knuckle business — a postponed flagship burns trust with fans and fighters at once, and the refund queue is open before a new date even exists. Flag: single outlet.
BKFC 95 skips PPV and bets on its own app (Oct 13) · BARE-KNUCKLE
- Saturday at the Prudential Center in Newark: Jamel Herring defends the bantamweight title against flyweight champ John Dodson — free fights 8pm ET, main card 9pm ET on the BKFC app (BKFC+, $7.99/mo) plus Fubo Sports. BKFC 92 and 94 went out on DAZN pay-per-view. TUF 5 veteran Rob Emerson, 45, makes his BKFC debut against Mike Medrano. (delinquentmma; BJPenn.)
- The business read: The subscription funnel over one-night paydays — BKFC is testing whether its own app can carry a numbered card. If it works, the DAZN-PPV experiment was the proof of concept and the app is the actual business.
Farid Basharat slams the UFC’s direction on the way out (Oct 15) · MMA
- The unbeaten bantamweight posted on X that no contract or opponent has been offered since his July 11 bout, denied ever declining a fight, thanked UFC staff and fans, and criticized the promotion’s direction — without naming a next move. His brother Javid went to the PFL after his own UFC exit. (MiddleEasy.)
- The business read: Another contract-limbo exit — "you can’t fire me, you never negotiated with me." The UFC’s roster machine keeps moving either way. Flag: Basharat’s account only; no UFC response in the report.

📈 Markets
|
THURSDAY, OCT 15 CLOSES
NFLX $72.61 +2.89% Thu — the day’s biggest gainer; Q3 earnings land Oct 20. The fight tie: the company carrying Fury-Joshua in eight weeks led the board.
FLUT $76.18 +2.59% Thu — bounced back off Wednesday’s 52-week-low plunge — one good session doesn’t erase a 66% YTD drawdown.
DKNG $19.31 +2.17% Thu — clawed back off the fresh 52-week low ($18.50 intraday Wednesday).
TKO $176.02 +2.11% Thu — recovered some of Wednesday’s slide; the wide price-vs-analyst-target gap stays the story.
PREDICTION MARKETS — Polymarket
UFC Middleweight champ, end of 2026 $52k vol
| Strickland 89.75% |
|
| Anyone else 10.25% |
|
Strickland climbed from 86.25% to 89.75% in 24 hours — Chimaev sits at just 1.35%. The crowd thinks the contract fight is already settled.
UFC Lightweight champ, end of 2026 $54k vol
| Gaethje 87.3% |
|
| Anyone else 12.7% |
|
Gaethje, the interim champ, is the board’s second-sure thing — and he doesn’t even hold the real belt yet.
The read: Thursday was the bounce-back — every name on the board rose 2–3%, mostly undoing Wednesday’s slide. Netflix led ahead of its October 20 earnings. One good day doesn’t make a trend, but it beats the alternative.
